Basement-Life.com

An online music magazine.

Basement Life was an online music magazine created by four friends in early 2000. While fully digital, we followed a traditional monthly magazine format and published on the first (or as close as we could) of every month. Unlike a traditional magazine format, I took the opportunity to completely redesign the entire site every month all in one day, followed by a day of coding.

The site consisted of new record reviews and three feature articles. One of the most innovative parts of the site was a music player that streamed large audio files so readers could listen to selections from each of the reviewed records, all without being able to download them, but a link to buy the record at a partner site was included.

In late 2002, we finally moved to the now standard site format posting daily and covering more music news. We also created a searchable archive that made all our content available before we all decided to cease publication.
